Caespitose palm with 13 stems, to 3 m tall. Collected stem 190 cm long, diam 3 cm, spiny especially below the nodes, spines black to 2.5 cm long, stem partly covered by old leafsheaths. Leaves 7, erect, turning so that the apical part becomes vertical; sheath 42 cm long; petiole 18.5 cm long; rachis 106 cm long; pinnae 43 per side, regularly distributed, the basal nearly erect, the apical plane.
