Caespitose palm growing in dense clusters in pastures. Stem to 300 cm tall, heavily armed with to 10 cm long black spines pointing towards the ground, DBH: 4 cm. Four leaves, the praemorse pinnae arranged in groups (3 2 2 on each side, counted from the base), petiole 66 cm, rachis 94 cm. One erect interfoliar infructescence, peduncle 140 cm long, densely covered with short yellow spines. Apical part of the infructescence wilted, the remaining 60 cm of the rachis with 56 rachillae. Vernacular name: Chillivo.
