Cespitose with no obvious runners. To 4 m tall. In- florescence branches red at maturity. Fruits first green, later black. A small cupula is present on the rachillae when the fruits have fallen. Used as spear in animal hunting according to Raphael Quinde. Nom. Vern.: Ca wang (Quichua)
