Morphology:
Riverine understorey palm. Stem solitary, sometimes with suckers at base, to 3 m long and 1-2 cm in diameter, often bent down for part of its length. Leaf blade 50-60 cm long, divided into numerous narrow, more or less equal pinnae on each side. Inflorescence unbranched; peduncle 20-40 cm long; spike 20-30 cm long, 4-6 mm in diameter. Female flowers with staminodes united into a tube. Fruits elliptic, 5-8 mm long.



Distribution:
Pacific South America in W Colombia and Ecuador, along rivers and streams where water levels reach the plant periodically.

Notes:
Closely related to Geonoma cuneata, and may be regarded as a segregate of that species, characterised by its rheophytic life form, and leaves with numerous narrow pinnae.
