Morphology:
Understorey palm. Acaulescent or with a short stem, to 1 m tall, 2-4 cm in diameter. Leaf blade 55-90 cm long, with 3-10 unequal to nearly equal segments on each side. Inflorescence once branched; peduncular bract slender, overtopping prophyll, persistent; peduncle 20-45 cm long; flower bearing branches 4-7, straight, 15-30 cm long and 2-4 mm in diameter. Flower pits small, with inconspicuous upper lip, inserted 3-4 mm apart. Female flowers with staminodes united into a tube. Fruits globose, black, 4-5 mm in diameter.



Distribution:
W Amazon basin in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, up to 700 m elevation.
