Morphology:
Stems usually clustered, to 2 m tall, and 1-2 cm in diameter. Leaf blade pinnately divided with 3-7 segments on each side separated by 3-7 cm long spaces; veins usually elevated above, forming an angle of 40-60° with the axis. Inflorescence 15-35 cm long, usually more or less erect, with peduncle ca. as long as the rather slender spike.
Distribution:
Distributed in the W Amazon region in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil, with an outlying population in French Guyana.
Notes:
Recognised by its pinnate leaves and relatively long peduncle
This variety was named Geonoma pycnostachys var. piscicauda by Skov (1989).
