Morphology:
Understorey palm. Stem solitary, to 3 m tall and 3-5 cm in diameter. Leaves arching, forming an umbrella shaped crown; blade 1-2 m long, narrow, simple, or divided into a few broad, highly unequal segments on each side, with conspicuous cross veins. Inflorescence once branched; peduncle 25-50 cm long; branches 2-8, straight, 10-30 cm long, 8-13 mm in diameter, brownish orange in fruit. Flower pits densely arranged. Female flowers with staminodes free nearly to the base, spreading at anthesis. Fruits globose to ellipsoid, 10-15 mm long



Distribution:
W Amazon region in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. Frequent throughout the E lowlands of Ecuador.
