Caespitose palm with five stems. Stems to 8 m tall, DBH: 11 cm, heavily armed with spines in the internodes. Nine leaves, leaf sheath 150 cm, petiole 65 cm, rachis 290 cm, no. of pinnae: 2 x 61. One infrafoliar creamy-yellow inflorescence, with one large peduncular bract (80 cm long and up to 25 cm wide), the bract creamy-yellow and glabrous inside, brown and completely covered with spines on the outside. Vernacular name: Chacara (spanish or chachi name used by the black population). Informant: Flavio Valdez.
